Gentle, child-friendly dental care - building healthy smiles and positive habits from the start

Children deserve a dental experience that leaves them confident, not anxious. At Pavlin dental clinic in Bar, Dr. Irina Soboleva and her team have been making young patients feel welcome and safe for over 26 years. We believe that how a child experiences the dentist today shapes their oral health for the rest of their life - so we get it right from the very beginning.

Our approach to children's dental care

A child's first experience at the dentist shapes their attitude to dental care for the rest of their life. We take this responsibility seriously. At Pavlin dental clinic, our approach to pediatric dentistry is built on patience, kindness and making every child feel genuinely welcome - not just tolerated.

Dr. Irina Soboleva has treated children for over 26 years and understands that young patients need time, explanation and encouragement at every step. We never rush, we always explain what we are doing in language children understand, and we make sure each visit ends on a positive note - including a gift for every child patient.

🎁 Every child receives a small gift after their appointment

Many of our young patients ask when they can come back. We consider that our best review.

When should my child first see a dentist?

0-1

From the first tooth

As soon as the first milk tooth erupts, it needs care. An early visit helps parents learn how to clean baby teeth properly.

2-3

First proper examination

By age 2-3, a full dental check-up is recommended. Early detection of problems in baby teeth is much easier to treat than later caries.

5-7

Adult teeth begin to erupt

This is the ideal time to discuss orthodontic assessment and to apply fissure sealants to protect the first permanent molars.

12+

Teen dental health

Orthodontic treatment, permanent tooth care and oral hygiene education - building habits that will last a lifetime.

Regular check-ups every 6-12 months to monitor the development of baby and adult teeth, detect early caries and assess bite development. Examination costs 10€ and includes the doctor's verbal consultation.

🦷

Caries treatment in children

Gentle treatment of dental cavities in both baby and permanent teeth. We use child-appropriate techniques - local anaesthetic when needed, and a calm, reassuring manner throughout.

πŸ›‘οΈ

Fissure sealants

A thin protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth - the most cavity-prone area. Completely painless and highly effective at preventing caries in children and teenagers.

✨

Tooth silvering

Application of silver nitrate to arrest early-stage caries in baby teeth - a gentle, completely painless preventive option for very young children before conventional filling is possible.

πŸ’§

Fluoride application

Professional fluoride treatment strengthens tooth enamel and significantly reduces the risk of caries - especially important during the years when new teeth are erupting.

πŸ”„

Baby tooth extractions

When a baby tooth needs to come out, we make the procedure as comfortable and anxiety-free as possible. With the right approach, even young children handle this surprisingly well.

Tips for parents: building healthy habits

The habits children develop in their early years stay with them for life. Here is our practical advice for parents on how to support your child's dental health at home.

βœ“

Start early - clean baby teeth from day one

Even before teeth appear, wipe your baby's gums with a clean damp cloth. Once teeth arrive, use a soft baby toothbrush with a rice-grain amount of fluoride toothpaste.

βœ“

Supervise brushing until age 7-8

Children do not have the dexterity to brush effectively on their own until this age. Help or check their brushing every evening.

βœ“

Limit sugary snacks between meals

It is not just the amount of sugar - it is the frequency. Each sugary snack or drink creates an acid attack on teeth. Three meals a day with no sugary snacking in between is the healthiest pattern.

βœ“

Make dental visits normal and positive

Do not use the dentist as a threat. Bring your child for check-ups even when nothing is wrong - this builds familiarity and removes the association between the dental clinic and pain or anxiety.

Frequently asked questions

My child is scared of the dentist - what do you do? +

Dental anxiety in children is very common and we are experienced in working with it. We never force or rush. We use a tell-show-do approach: first we explain what we will do, then show the instrument, then gently proceed - only when the child feels ready. We never surprise a child with an instrument or procedure. Our clinic is warm and welcoming, and every child receives a gift at the end. Many children who arrive anxious leave happy. If you would like to, you are welcome to bring your child for a first visit just to see the clinic and meet Dr. Soboleva - no treatment at all.

At what age should children first visit a dentist? +

We recommend bringing your child for their first dental visit when the first milk teeth appear - usually around 6-12 months of age - or by their first birthday at the latest. This early visit is mostly educational: we check the teeth are developing normally and teach parents how to clean them. Regular visits from age 2-3 help your child grow up comfortable with dental care.

How do you treat cavities in baby teeth - should they even be filled? +

Yes - baby teeth matter enormously. They hold space for the adult teeth, support chewing and speech development, and painful or infected baby teeth affect a child's quality of life. We treat cavities in baby teeth with gentle, appropriately sized instruments and local anaesthetic when necessary. For very small children or early cavities, we may use tooth silvering (silver nitrate) as a non-invasive first step.

What are fissure sealants and does my child need them? +

Fissure sealants are a thin protective coating applied to the grooves and pits of the back teeth - the areas most vulnerable to cavities in children. The procedure is completely painless (no injections, no drilling) and takes just a few minutes per tooth. We recommend sealants for permanent molars as soon as they fully erupt, typically at age 6-7. They can reduce the risk of cavities in those teeth by up to 80%.

My child's adult teeth are coming in crooked - is this normal? +

Some crowding when adult teeth first appear is normal, as the jaw is still growing. However, significant crowding, cross-bites or bite issues benefit from early assessment. We can evaluate your child's dental development and advise whether early intervention with a trainer or simply watchful waiting is the right approach. An early assessment costs nothing and gives you peace of mind.
